James Getty was born in July of 1869 in Ridgeway Township, Lenawee County, Michigan. He was the son of Hugh and Mary (Covell) Getty.

He died on September 27, 1870 at just over one year old. James is buried at Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway Township
