Mildred (Roggerman) Heiden was the daughter of Ralph Raymond and Adeline (Getty) Roggerman. During the 1950s and 1960s, Ralph lived on Monroe Street (M-50) with his second wife, Edith Daykin. The house which is shown above was caught in a flood of the River Raisin in the 1980s but the Roggermans were no longer living in it.

Ralph and Edith (Daykin) Roggerman

The house was a short distance from the downtown area of Dundee across the bridge on the River Raisin. It was common for Art and Mildred's children to be given 50 cents so they could walk in the evening (unescorted) to the movie theater about half a mile away. For that amount, we would get admission to a double feature, popcorn, pop and some kind of candy. It never bothered us that, occasionally, a mouse would scamper over our feet in the darkness during the show. It was a different time.

Art, Mil, Grandpa and his second wife, Edith would usually play a game of cards called Clubs Trump. They would always be laughing and having fun. Grandpa chewed Skoal tobacco snuff inside his lower lip and kept a coffee can next to his chair. Occasionally he would lean over the can...well, you get the point. Somehow one time I got some of the stuff in my eye and I yelled, "I have Grandpa's spittoon in my eye!" Maybe that's why I had to start wearing glasses in the fourth grade.

This is what the house looked like in about 2015.
