Louis Clyde Glubke, 84, a lifelong resident of Battle Creek
and longtime executive at The Battle Creek Enquirer; died
peacefully surrounded by his family on March 29, 2017.
Louis was born on September 22, 1932, in Battle Creek, the
son of the late Joseph N. and Teresa A. (Lybarger) Glubke.
He was a 1950 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School
and had taken accounting and business classes at the old
Argubright Business College. From 1952-54, Louis served with
the U.S. Army in Germany and France during the Korean War,
attaining the rank of sergeant.
Louis joined The Battle Creek Enquirer in July 1951 and held
various positions in the newspaper's accounting department.
He was named chief accountant in 1966 and controller/chief
financial officer in 1972. He retired from the Enquirer in
September 1992 after 41 years of service.
Louis loved his hometown and had served as treasurer of the
Battle Creek Y Center Board of Directors and Neighborhoods
Inc. He was active with the Battle Creek Area Chamber of
Commerce Silent Observer Committee and the Enrichment of
Human Relations Committee. He served as an advisor to the
National Management Group of Battle Creek, a trustee of the
Battle Creek Urban League, president of the Battle Creek
Enquirer Employees Credit Union, and as a board member of
the Family Health Center and Bridgewood Condominium
Association.
Louis was an avid golfer who had been a longtime member of
Riverside Country Club. He enjoyed traveling and owned a
home in Florida for several years. He was an enthusiastic
supporter of the Battle Creek Bombers and hosted baseball
team members in his home for many years. He loved music and
especially enjoyed concerts by the Brass Band of Battle
Creek. He also enjoyed cars, tennis, running, and touring
homes. Louisand his wife loved to bring people together and
are fondly remembered for their large parties for family and
friends on July 4, Christmas and New Year's Day.
Louis was a kind, warm-hearted and hard-working man who was
devoted to his family. He married the former Marilyn M.
Fuller on April 23, 1966, in Trinity Lutheran Church. In
addition to Marilyn, Louis is survived by his sons, Scott L.
(Angela) Glubke of Battle Creek, and Kevin D. (Erika) Glubke of
Roswell, GA; his grandchildren, Bradley, Joseph and Nathan Glubke of
Battle Creek, and Jordan and Dylan Glubke of Roswell, GA;
his brother, Jerry L. (Marion) Glubke of Battle Creek; and
several nieces and nephews.
