Gregory Donald Heiden,
age 69 of Monroe, passed away Friday afternoon on
Aug. 20th in his home. He had been in declining
health for two months.
Born on April 10, 1952 in Harrisville, MI, Greg was
the oldest child born to the late Donald and Doris (Petee)
Heiden.
Not long after graduating from Monroe Catholic
Central High School in 1971, Greg began working at
the Ford Motor Monroe Stamping Plant. His employment
there as an electrician ended after approximately 35
years when the plant closed in 2008.
As an active AA member of 26 years, Greg used his
personal life experiences to benefit others. A
former treasurer of AA, he was also instrumental in
creating Friday Night Bowling and was a longtime
sponsor and participant of Sahara Boaters. In
addition to boating and bowling, Greg also enjoyed
playing Euchre at the Dundee Senior Center, camping,
golfing, fishing, and riding his Harley, especially
with his friends and co-members of Freedom Cruisers
Riding Club, Chapter 142.
Greg is survived by three sons: Michael (Charity
Hill) Heiden of Monroe, Thomas (Jennifer) Heiden of
Petersburg, and Matthew (Kiri) Heiden of Newport;
three siblings: Kim (Ed) Tomalak of Carmel, IN, Jeff
(Liz) Heiden of Monroe, and Lynn (Tom) Brennen of
Monroe; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 24th and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at
Bacarella Funeral Home. At 7 p.m., Greg’s nephew,
Cory Heiden, will share memories and offer words of
comfort in celebration of Greg’s life. Cremation
will follow in accordance with his wishes.
