CHARLES MELVIN TOBUREN

Charles Melvin Toburen was born on December 7, 1914. in Ida Township, Monroe
County, to Elmer and Tillie Toburen. He passed away at the age of 69 in his home at Onondaga, September 15. 1984.
He married Florence Roggerman in the Rea Methodist Protestant Church on
December 12, 1934. He was a member of the Onondaga Community Church, the Onondaga
Senior Citizens and the Ingham County Assessors Association. He helped organize
the Onondaga Volunteer Fire Department and served as its first chief. He was an
active fireman until his death. Charles was a charter member of the Onondaga
Township Planning Commission. He was a life member of the Onondaga Lodge No.
197 F&AM and Leslie-Onondaga OES. He
had been a volunteer worker for the Leslie Ambulance Service since its
beginning and served on its Executive Board. In 1974, Chuck was elected
Supervisor of Onondaga Township and had filed as Democratic candidate in the
November election.
Surviving are his wife, Florence, 2 daughters, Carol Foreman of
Huntsville, Ala. and Mary Stankewich of Laurel, Md; 5 sons, Gordon of
Manheim, Pa; Stanley of Willcox, Ariz; Melvin of Aurora, Col.; Marvin and
Donald of Onondaga; and a foster son, Ronald Erickson of Aurora, Col., 18
grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lila Sortor and Alice Rehberg of Dundee; 3 brothers, Frederick of Allen Park; Clyde of
Dundee; and Erwin of Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2
brothers and a sister.
