Wheaton, Karen 8/7/1942 - 10/4/2017 Ann Arbor Karen Louise Berns
Wheaton, age 75, of Ann Arbor, died at home on October 4. Visitation
will be Sunday, October 8 from 3 to 7:00 PM at Nie Funeral Home,
3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor and services will be held on Monday,
October 9 at the same location.
She was born on August 7, 1942 in
Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Madelyn Hanson Berns.
Karen was a 1960 graduate of
Dundee High School. She married Roger
Wheaton on June 25, 1966. Karen and her husband ran the Wheaton
Pharmacy in Dundee for twenty years.
Known for her keen wit and awareness
of current events, Karen was a lively conversation partner who
always had time for a chat with family and friends on a wide range
of topics. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and a formidable
Euchre player. Karen had a passion for researching family history
which she shared with her mother. She led investigations throughout
the country that took them from Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower to
the early years of Michigan history.
She is survived by her husband,
children Kendall Wheaton of Ann Arbor and Ryan and Marcy (Wolf)
Wheaton and grandson Christian of Utah; siblings Lauren (Debra)
Berns of Georgia, Allen (Barbara) Berns of Dundee, Margie (Tony
Silva) Berns of Indiana, and Gwendolyn of Virginia;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Betty Wheaton of
Colorado, brother-in-law Ray Boice of Utah; aunts and uncles Eva
Berns McCarthy of Illinois, Dale and Laura Berns Shoemaker of
Manistee, and Richard and Linda Berns Miller of Bloomfield Hills;
nieces and nephews Lisa Boice of Utah, Todd Boice of California,
Jeffrey Berns of South Carolina, Joel Berns of Dundee, Joshua Berns
of Ohio, Ross White of Georgia, and Lesley de Armas of Florida, in
addition to many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her
parents.
Karen was grateful for the time and
dedication devoted by so many to cancer research and expressed the
wish that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or
the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure.
