Robert W. Laas was the child of Louis and Mamie (Richter) Laas.

He graduated from Jessup W Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio in 1944.

On June 28, 1946, he married Ruthella M. "Ruth"  Ritenour. She was born on April 18, 1928 in Toledo and died on October 10, 2023.

He had three children. One child, Judith Prater, died in 2017.

Robert died in October, 1973 at the age of 45.
