Over the first 24 year period of their marriage, Art and Mildred had seven children. In 1951, Mildred gave birth to a stillborn son and their oldest son, Harold, died in 2023 at the age of 89.

Of the six who lived to adulthood, all were born in an even numbered year and there was either 4 or 6 years between each birth. The family moved frequently so each child was born while living in a different house. They produced 13 grandchildren for Art and Mildred.

The three oldest children attended Bridge School for some part of their early education. All of them graduated from Dundee High School and attended confirmation class at either St Matthew or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
