Ralph Lewis "Bob" Roggerman was born in April, 1918 as the fourth child of Ralph Raymond and Addie (Getty) Roggerman..

On December 10, 1938, he married Ruth Lucille Mattice at St Aphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield, Michigan. They had six daughters, three of whom died at birth.

From July, 1944 to July, 1946, Bob served in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and 3 Overseas Service Bars.

He worked as a precision grinder for Monroe Auto Equipment for 46 years from 1931 to 1984 minus the war years..

At the time of Ruth's death, they had 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

He was always known as Bob Roggerman but there is some confusion as to his full given name. The 1930 census gives his name as Lewis B. On his 1938 marriage license, he is listed as Lewis Ralph Roggerman. His 1940 military draft registration he is shown as Ralph Lewis Roggerman and that is how he signed the form himself. The 1950 census shows him as Ralph L. Roggerman. We will call him Ralph Lewis or Bob.

Roggerman or Roggeman or Roggermann? In U.S. census forms, the name is listed as either Roggerman or Roggeman. With the exception of Charles' youngest child, George who chose to use the name Roggeman without the "r", the rest of the family regularly used Roggerman. In some German records it is spelled Roggermann and that is how it appears on the headstone for Charles, the ancestor who came from Germany although he used Roggerman during his life in America... from what we can tell.

On January 10, 1921, a fire in the Commerce Department building, Washington, DC, resulted in the destruction of most of the 1890 census.
