Lodema I. (Flood) Berschinger was born on June 27, 1914 in Pellston, Emmet County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Addie (Hanley) and William Flood.

In 1932, she graduated from Pellston High School.

On July 31, 1936, she married Robert E. Shier in Gaylord, Otsego County, Michigan and they had two children.

Robert who was born on October 2, 1914 in Petoskey, died on July 21, 1979 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in that town.

On January 20, 1986 Lodema married Clarence Bertschinger (right) in Indian River in Cheboygan County, Michigan.

She died on October 14, 1990 at the age of 76 in Little Traverse Division, Northern Michigan Hospitals in Petoskey, Emmet County, Michigan. Lodema is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.
