This
section will be of interest to the descendants of
Arthur and Mildred (Roggerman) Heiden. Mildred's mother was
Adeline "Addie" (Getty) Roggerman pictured to the left.
In 1852, George Kilpatrick Getty came to America
from the small town of
Portglenone in County Antrim which is now in what is
called Northern
Ireland. It is on the River Bann
about 8 miles from Ballymena, 34 miles from Belfast
and 135 miles from Dublin. Portglenone had a
population of about 1,200 in 2011.
In March of 1985, Monita
Fergus published a book on the history of the Getty
Family. It has wonderful, extensive coverage of the
Gettys back to John Getty, Sr who was born in
Ireland in 1788. Much of the information included in
this section is from this book.
The Getty Family has at least two connections to the
Heiden Family. As mentioned above Mildred (Roggerman)
Heiden's mother's maiden name was Getty. Another
connection, however, is through Mildred's cousin,
Florence (Roggeman) Toburen whose mother,
Flossie (Getty)
Roggeman, was the sister of Mildred's mother.
Florence's son,
Gordon Toburen, married Carol Jean Heiden who is the daughter of
William Frank Heiden.
