Alan Hugh Wittkop was born on May 8, 1930 in Dundee, Michigan. He was the third child of Veyril (Getty) and Dewey Wittkop.

On July 2, 1953, he married JoAnne Lentz and they had five children.

Alan died on January 14, 2006 in Auburndale, Polk County, Florida at the age of 75. He is buried in Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, Michigan. JoAnne passed away on March 1, 2021 in Brightside Assisted and Memory Care Facility in Jackson, Michigan. She was 86 years old.
