Veyirl (Getty) Wittkop was born December 1, 1902 in Dundee Township, Monroe County, Michigan. She was the fourth child of Ervin and Lena (Oliver) Getty.

On December 26, 1922, she married Dewey John Wittkop who was born on October 13, 1899. They had five children.

In 1930, the census showed them living at 110 Rawson Street in Dundee. The 1950 census had them living at 581 Main Street in Dundee where they lived for several decades.

Before her marriage, Veyirl worked as a telphone operator in Dundee and also worked at the Goodrich Five and Dime store in town.

Dewey worked at Consolidated Packaging Company in Monroe. He died on December 29, 1972 at the age of 73 in  Ann Arbor and is buried at at Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg, Michigan.

Veyirl died on September 19, 1987 in Milan Township, Monroe County, Michigan at the age of 84. She is also buried at Pleasant View Cemetery.

Ervin (39) and Lena (36) were living near Ridgeway in Lenawee County with their children Floss (17), Blanche (12), Veyirl (8) and Alice (5). Their eldest daughter, Adeline (21) and her husband, Ralph Raymond Roggerman (24) were living with them along with their newborn first child, Ervin (<1). Ervin's aunts, Nancy (Getty) Downing and Eliza (Getty) Underwood were listed as living nearby.
By this time, Ervin (49) and Lena (46) were living on South Street in Dundee, Michigan. Their last two children, Veyirl (18) and Alice (15) were still at home with them.
 
Veyirl (37) and Dewey (40) Wittkop were living at 631 Pearl Street in Dundee with their children, John (16), Allen (9), Joan (8) and Fred (3). Veyirl was working as a sales woman in a retail store while Dewey was a mechanic at a trucking firm.
