  Ethel
May (Behm) Kunkel was born on Wednesday, February
10, 1897 in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of
Sophia
Marie (Kempker) and George W. Behm.
In the 1910 census,
she was living in the household of Raymond Brill in
Philadelphia.
On Thursday, May 1,
1913 at the age of 16, she married Rinaldo A Kunkel
in Philadelphia. The marriage took place at the
residence of the bride and was recorded at the
Methodist Midtown Parish in Philadelphia.
They had three
children:

Melvin Rinaldo "Mel" Kunkel

George H. Kunkel (1927-1988)
In September of 1917,
Ethel, Rinaldo and their child Ida, were living at
2156 Dreer Street in Philadelphia. They were still
there at the 1920 census. In 1922, they moved to
808 North
Twenty-ninth St., Camden City, Camden County,
NJ. where they were still located in 1928. By
1930, they were at 1083 Lois in Camden City and
Rinaldo's brother, George, was a boarder.
They
moved to 207 Church Road, South Merchantville
Village, Delaware Township, Camden County. Mary
Coombs was also living in the home. In 1940, they
were in the same address although their surname was
misspelled as Conklin.
Ethel died in
September of 1973 at the age of 76. Prior to her
death, she was living Pennsauken in Camden County.
Rinaldo was listed as
Abe R. in some of the census reports. He was born on
December 23, 1893 in Philadelphia and died in
September of 1967 at the age of 73. During his
working life, he was employed as a bartender and
foreman at a produce market at the annual wage of
$1,100 in 1939. |
