Velda
Louise Heiden, age 90 of Monroe, passed away
Sunday morning, June 12, 2022 at ProMedica
Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born November 26, 1931 in Monroe, Velda was
the daughter of the late Carl and Anita (Kroeger)
Heiden. She attended Bridge School, a
one-room schoolhouse for her elementary
education, and graduated from Dundee High
School in 1949. Shortly after, she began a
42 year working career for Ida Farmer’s
CO-OP, retiring in 1993.
Velda was a member of Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church in Ida where she was
baptized and confirmed, Monroe Senior
Citizen’s, and WELCA (Women of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America).
Velda had a fondness for animals and enjoyed
nature and the outdoors. She was happiest in
the summertime when picking strawberries and
blueberries to deliver them as gifts to her
friends and relatives. Young at heart, Velda
also enjoyed listening to country music,
playing golf, and visiting the casinos. She
was an avid Detroit Tigers Baseball fan. She
very seldom missed a televised game and
would travel to Lakeland, Florida to watch
them during spring training.
Velda is survived by a sister, Verdell
Giebel of Monroe; close friend, Katherine
Oklejas of Monroe; and many relatives and
friends. In addition to her parents, Velda
was also preceded in death by a
brother-in-law, Buddy Giebel.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to
7 p.m. today, June 14th at Bacarella Funeral
Home. Velda will lie in state at 9 a.m.
tomorrow, Wednesday, at Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church where services will be held
at 10 a.m. Rev. Sean Ewbank will officiate
followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial
Park.
Memorial
donations are suggested to the church. The
family would like to thank the hospital
staff for the care and compassion given to
Velda. She will be remembered as a wonderful
person with a fun sense of humor and will be
greatly missed.
