Ervin Friederick August Heiden was born on October 1, 1913 as the seventh child of Ernst "Ernest" and Anna (Knack) Heiden. He was born at the family home at 8925 South Custer Road and attended the one-room Fonia School which was located about a mile or so away at 11411 Trost Road through the 8th grade.

On September 28, 1940, he married Helen A. Jaworski at St John Lutheran Church in Dundee, Michigan and they had two children.

Erv worked for Consolidated Packaging Company in Monroe and Ford Motor Company at their plant in Rawsonville, Michigan. Helen worked as a beautician for 35 years.

Ervin died at home in Dundee on January 26, 1996 at the age of 82 and is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery. Helen passed away at 92 on August 25, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio.
