Alfred Julius "Dave" Heiden was born on July 20, 1915 as the eighth child of Ernst "Ernest" and Anna (Knack) Heiden. He was born at the family home at 8925 South Custer Road.

He attended the one-room Fonia School which was located about a mile or so away at 11411 Trost Road through the 8th grade. During World War II, Dave served in the U.S. Navy from October 9, 1943 to December 11, 1945.

On December 31, 1938, he married Betty Jane Cusac at Central Christian Church in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on November 4, 1917 in Toledo. They lived in Ida, Michigan and at 619 E 4th Street in Monroe. Dave worked as a truck driver at Consolidated Packaging in Monroe.

He died at the age of 83 on October 15, 1998 in Monroe and Betty passed away on September 24, 1999 in Charleston, South Carolina where she lived with their only child, Thomas. She was 81 years of age.
