Herman D. Heiden was the first child of Lewis and Zina (Robinson) Heiden. He was born on August 25, 1924 in Chippewa Township, Isabella County, Michigan.

He was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Burma and India. Herman worked for 43 years as a boilermaker and plumber in Lansing, Michigan.

On May 1, 1948, he married Lydia McMillan in Evart, Michigan. They lived in Charlotte, Michigan and spent winters in either Brooksville, Florida or Tucson, Arizona.

On May 15, 2011, Herman died at the age of 86 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte, Michigan. Lydia followed him in death on October 9, 2020 at the age of 93 in Potterville, Michigan.

They had three children including:

There are two Herman Heidens in the early generations. Herman John Heiden (left), son of August and Rika (Knaack) Heiden and Herman D. Heiden, son of Lewis Heiden and grandson of Herman John.
