Bertha (Rambow) Burgard was born on December 15, 1872 in Gross Wokern, Germany. She was the second child of Heinrich and Wilhelmina (Milhan) Rambow.

Her family lived in the same small town as August and Rika (Knaack) Heiden. Bertha and her family emigrated to America in 1874 when she was only 2 years old.

She married William Burgard on April 21, 1897 at her parent's home at 7400 South Custer Road in Raisinville Township, Monroe County, Michigan. They had three children.

William was born on June 4, 1872 and died November 24, 1947 at the age of 75. He was a farmer 11609 South Custer Road a few miles west of Berth's birthplace.

Bertha died on December 20, 1955 at the age of 83 at the family farm.

On January 10, 1921, a fire in the Commerce Department building, Washington, DC, resulted in the destruction of most of the 1890 census.

William (27) and his wife, Bertha (Rambow) (27) lived on the family farm with his parents, Fred (55) and Lisette "Lizzy"  who were both born in Germany.

 
 
Elsie (31) and Harrison (36) Dentel were living with her parents, William (58) and Bertha (58) Burgard. Elsie's daughter, Shirley Mae was one year old. Arthur Burgard (29) was also living at the farm.
