Florence Katharyn (Roggeman) Toburen was born on September 21, 1915 in Dundee, Michigan. She was the first child of George and Floss (Getty) Roggeman.

On December 12, 1934, she married Charles Melvin Toburen who was born December 7, 1914 and died September 15, 1984 at the age of 69. They had seven children. 

In the 1950 census, they were shown as living on Ann Arbor Road just north of the Village of Dundee. In 1952, they were living at 12330 Dixon Road next door to Florence's cousin, Mildred (Roggerman) Heiden.

In 1960, the family moved to Onondaga in Ingham County, Michigan about 30 miles south of Lansing. The lived on a farm at 5295 Bellevue Road and both she and Chuck became active in local politics and organizations.

Florence wrote articles for the Leslie Local newspaper for 14 years. (Click the Newspaper button below to see examples.) She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past president of the Leslie school board. According to one source, both she and Chuck served as Township Supervisor and they were both active in the Onondaga Community United Church of Christ. Chuck was also a volunteer fireman.

Florence died on April 29, 1988 in Onondaga at the age of 72. She is buried in the Lulu Cemetery in Ida, Michigan. At the time of her death, she had 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Florence (34), Charles "Chuck" (35) lived on M-50 north of Dundee. Their children included Carol (14), C. Gordon (12) and Stanley (10). Chuck was listed as a tractor mechanic.
