In March of 1985, Monita
Fergus published a book on the history of the Getty
Family. The Gettys are related to the Heiden Family
through
Mildred (Roggerman) Heiden (right) and
Florence and
Gordon Toburen.
Mildred was the daughter
of
Ralph and Addie (Getty) Roggerman. Gordon was married to the
former
Carol Heiden who is the daughter of
William Frank Heiden. Gordon's mother, Florence, was
the daughter of George and
Flossie (Getty)
Roggeman. Although they spelled their surnames
differently, Ralph and George were brothers.
This
great book follows the Getty Family starting
with John Getty, Sr. (right) who was born about
1788 in The Parish of Portglenone, in what is now
Northern Ireland. It then goes to his son, James Getty Sr. born
in 1810 in Ireland. His son, George Kilpatrick
Getty and his wife, Naomi Russell, came to
America in 1852 and eventually settled in
Ridgeway Township in Lenawee County, Michigan.
George
and Naomi's youngest son, Ervin Leonidas Getty
(left) was born in Michigan in 1871. He was
married to Lena Oliver and they had six
children. Their eldest daughter, Adeline
"Addie", married Ralph Raymond Roggerman and
they had five children included Mildred.
