The 1940 census has Fred and Emma Rambow living at 2041 Rambow Drive on what would have been the western edge of the City of Monroe in Frenchtown Township. It was still rural at that time and Fred was listed as a school janitor and farmer. The place was referred to as Patterson Gardens and the whole area is now within the boundary of the City of Monroe.

On the 1950 census, they were still living at this address. Fred was 80 and Emma 72 at the time. Other sources say that they live here from 1913 to 1954 when they moved to Ida. At the time of Fred's death in 1959, he was living with his daughter, Esther (Rambow) Miller.
