Johann Jochim Diederich Heiden who was born on Friday, April 19, 1776 in Nienhagen. He married Ilsabe Catharina Sophia Teschenow from Klein Rehburg on Friday, May 27, 1807. The marriage took place in Mamerow. Johann died on November 21, 1827 in Nienhagen.

Ilsabe was born November 10, 1787 and she died January 20, 1845 in Gross Wokern. She was 16 at the time of their marriage and had the same last name as her mother in law but we do not know if they were related. In small villages, certain names were very common and she may have been a distant cousin of some sort. The couple had four sons and one daughter.

  1. Christina Sophia Maria Elizabeth "Maria" Heiden born on Friday, October 23, 1807 in Gross Roge (Mother of August Heiden)

  2. Johann Heinrich Carl Jacob Heiden born January 25, 1818

  3. Carl Johann Friedrich Heiden born December 16, 1821 and died April 26, 1823 in Nienhagen

  4. Christoph Ludwig Friedrich "Ludwig" Heiden born March 19, 1825

  5. Heinrich Heiden born November 21, 1827

The family must have moved from Klein Rehburg to nearby Gross Wokern because that was the birthplace of Christina Sophia Maria Elizabeth Heiden who was the mother of August Heiden and the grandmother of William Carl Heiden.

The final son, Heinrich was born on Wednesday, November 21, 1827, only two weeks after his father’s death at the age of 51. This must have been a very hard time for the widow, Ilsabe. One son, Carl, had died when he was only 2 years old so she was left with three young children ranging from newborn to age 9.

Maria was already 20 when her father died and was probably out working on her own. Perhaps she felt obligated to stay at home and help with the support of the family with the meager wages she earned as a housemaid.

Ilsabe Heiden died on Monday, January 20, 1845 in Gross Wokern at the age of 54. By then, the youngest son, Heinrich, would have been 17 years old and was probably already working too.

On January 27, 1883, Ludwig Heiden sent a letter to his nephew, August Heiden in Michigan. He had been living in Sweden (the letter came from Christianstad, Sweden) and had been married to his second wife for 20 years at that time. He would have been about 58 at that writing.
