This farm seems to have been a busy place in terms of the Heiden Family. It was known as the Bordine farm and Edna (Heiden) and Henry Berns lived here when their daughter, Linda was born in 1940. Hank farmed the land and the family live in the house for 12 to 14 years. According to Eva, Edna's brothers Leo and Lester and their families stayed with them at different times. These were Great Depression times and families had to help each other out to make it through life.

After Edna and Henry moved, the house remained empty for some time. The Berns' family moved to the Hallie farm (we don't have an address) near Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee for about 4 years. They then moved to their farm at 7460 South Custer Road in Raisinville Township. The Heiden Reunion was held here in 1927 and 1933 while Edna and Henry Berns lived on this farm.

Then, the Kosters took over the farm in the late 1940s, moving from a place on Radka Road in Dundee Township. In the 1950 U.S. Census, John and Lena had moved to Bedford Township near Toledo to live with their grandson, Gerald Koster. Marvin Koster and his wife, Mary, continued to work the farm through the 1960s.

The Heiden Family Reunion was held here in 1927 and 1933.

The green house on Dixon Road is where Hank and Edna (Heiden) Berns lived when I was a child. I remember the house had no electricity they had kerosene lamps on the table in the kitchen. This picture was taken before this as the trees were bigger as I remember Hank always raised bees and he always had lots of pigeons in his barn.

They lived here when Linda Lou was born. Walter always said he remembered her birth because he and Lavern went to Dundee (perhaps to a movie) and when they got home the doctor was there and Linda had been born. Walter had no idea Edna was pregnant and was really shocked. I guess back in those days women wore big dresses and aprons so being pregnant didn't show. Different from today. He would have been 20 when she was born.

She remembers living in the Bordine farm which was the second house east of the railroad tracks. The Berns family lived there for 12 to 14 years. This was during the depression and she remembered that her mother's brothers Lester and Leo stayed briefly with them at this house. Eva and her sister Laura walk back and forth to Bridge School each day. This was a distance of about 2 miles or so each way.
